The court may also order you to install an ignition interlock device (IID) with or without a Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) requirement. You will be provided with a court order at the time of your hearing and it will specify if you need to install your IID and may also outline how long you will need it. Installing an IID as a requirement for a court order does not give you driving privileges. To be eligible to drive, you must have a restricted driver’s license through the California DMV.
You’re required to pay for all your California IID costs which include installation, monthly service fees and device removal fees. You may also be required to attend a DUI or substance abuse court referral program.
