The state of New Jersey takes driving under the influence (DUI or DWI) very seriously and has imposed harsh penalties on people who break the law. If you are caught driving under the influence of intoxicants or with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher, you will be cited for (DUI).
NEW JERSEY IGNITION INTERLOCK LAWS
First time DUI offenders in New Jersey whose blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is .15% or higher must install an ignition interlock device (IID) in their vehicles during license suspension and for 6 months to 1 year following license restoration.
REINSTATING A SUSPENDED NEW JERSEY LICENSE
If your test shows that you have a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or more, you are considered to be driving under the influence, and will be subject to any or all of the following:
Installation of an ignition interlock device
Fines, fees, and related surcharges
These court orders, if applicable, must be satisfied before one's license can be reinstated.
New Jersey Intoxicated Driver Program
Any person that is convicted of an alcohol related traffic offense is required to complete an Intoxicated Driver Program (IDP) at an Intoxicated Driving Resource Center (IDRC). The IDRC evaluates each offender for an alcohol or drug problem and determines the proper treatment. If treatment is necessary, you must complete a minimum of 16 weeks. As part of the program, you will need to attend mandatory Alcohol and Highway Safety Education courses.
