Pennsylvania uses your blood alcohol content (BAC) to determine whether you're legally driving under the influence. Below are the BAC limits and their corresponding ages or qualifiers:
General Impairment penalties (Undetermined BAC, .08 to .099% BAC)
High BAC penalties (.10 to .159% BAC)
Highest BAC penalties (.16% and higher) or Controlled Substance
IGNITION INTERLOCK DEVICE PROGRAM
Pennsylvania law makes the Ignition Interlock requirement mandatory for first-time DUI offenders with high blood alcohol levels, repeat DUI offenders and individuals who refuse chemical testing.
REINSTATING A SUSPENDED PENNSYLVANIA LICENSE
You must meet all requirements of your DUI suspension in order to reinstate your driver's license, including:
Completing your suspension period determined by your court order
Paying all fines, including any additional court costs
Serving jail time as determined by your court order
Completing an alcohol education program or other required education classes
Paying your license reinstatement fee of $100
Sometimes, drivers must also re-apply for their license (includes taking all the required tests, paying applicable fees)
IGNITION INTERLOCK LIMITED LICENSE (IILL)
An Ignition Interlock Limited License is a driver's license issued to an individual whose operating privilege is suspended or revoked for one or more violations of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance or refusal to submit to chemical testing. An Ignition Interlock Limited License permits an individual, if certain requirements are met, to operate a motor vehicle(s) equipped with an Ignition Interlock system during the term, or part of the term, of their suspension or revocation. To obtain your IILL, you must:
Complete the Individual Restorations Requirement Letter that PennDOT mails you (you should receive this within 30 days of becoming eligible for restoration)
